Few months ago, the world was shaken with the news on the gruesome killing of four promising undergraduate students of University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, Nigeria. The four boys; Ugonna Ibuzor, Tekena Elkanah, Llyod Michael and Chidiaka Biringa were stripped unclothed, beaten while being paraded round the village, Aluu, and finally set ablazed which led to their deaths.  The killing of the four UNIPORT undergraduates heated the world polity as international media outfits reported the story and it received diverse reactions from those who heard about it. It further affected the image of Nigeria as some foreigners reportedly stopped having anything to do with some Nigerians both home and abroad.  Barely three months after the death of the four students, a Nollywood producer, Simony Productions, which shot BlackBerry Babes, has reportedly decided to shoot a movie on the Aluu murder when those behind the incident have not been brought to book yet.  According to what our source scooped from industry sources, the movie of the unfortunate Aluu killing is at an advance stage of its shooting now.  However, some Nigerians have kicked against the development which they see as a mockery of the death of the students. “I can bet that this movie would be a wack one. The censor board should never pass this movie because it is totally uncalled for,” an angry Nigeria told our source Another Nigerian said, “what is wrong with Nollywood? Why would a producer shoot a movie about a bad incident that was condemned by the world? It is too early to shoot a movie on Aluu because this would hurt the parents the more.” “I doubt if they got the approval of the late victims’ parents before doing this movie. That is my problem with this industry called Nollywood. They keep spoiling Nigeria with their dirty lifestyles. If the family of this movie producer was involved in the incident, would he have gone ahead to shoot this movie? He just wants to make money out of Nigerians with the ugly incident, another vexed Nigerian told our source.  An industry source, who begged for anonymity told us, “Simony is a businessman that wants to rake Nigerians through the Aluu 4 incident. If he goes ahead with this movie on Aluu 4, the he should be ready to hear from the spirits of the dead four guys. Why must he put the families of the dead boys in another agony when Christmas and New Year celebrations are just around the corner? Speaking with our source when contacted on phone, Simony claimed the movie is not about Aluu 4 as being reported. He said Nigerians and the press in particular would have waited for him to release the film before concluding the flick was about the unfortunate incident.  “A movie has not been made and you people (the media) are just jumping into conclusion. You press write too much. Will you conclude [that my film is on Aluu 4] because you see location pictures? What I will want you to do is to wait and let the movie comes out first before assuming the film is about Aluu 4. You are hearing from the horse’s that the movie is not about Aluu 4,” Simony disclosed to our source when answering series of questions asked him by our source about the controversial movie.

A year ago there was buzz online and in Nollywood that Thelma dipped her fingers into actor Segun Arinzes marriage whilst in a serious relationship with Yaw.
Insiders confirm, it took prayers and fasting to rebuke Thelma out of Segun’s marriage. This led to Yaw dumping Thelma and moving on with his heart..
Well Thelma is in the news again and this time she has crashed the marriage of her best friend ,Actress Gloria Mba whose marriage was contracted to Houston based Leo kanu on 27/03/11
Gloria announced via her Face book handle that her marriage had crashed.

I contacted Gloria on Sunday November 25,2011 and after asking her questions she cut the call after denying that her marriage was crashed. I called her back and rephrased the questions and sighing deeply she opened up.
“Yes my marriage is over and Yes Thelma is part of the reason it crashed”
We asked her what happened and what role Thelma played in the crash.
“I read Thelma and Leo’s mails to each other and Thelma doesn’t know I know they are dating. I bumped into his inbox. We have our passwords and I just wanted to check,I never bothered to check all this while out of trust but I just got curious and checked and got the shocker. “
We asked her to copy us the mail and if she had confronted her friend and her response was“there is no need to confront Thelma when the marriage is already over and no I cannot copy you the mail. I just want to move on. My ex husband’s friend asked me to confront them both but there’s no need because it will change nothing. I took Thelma like my own sister and we were so close.”
To be fair, we called Thelma and here’s what went down.
‘Thelma we heard you crashed your friend Gloria Mbas Marriage.
Her Response;
“Oh my goodness this is not real.(Laughing) Is her marriage crashed?has she called me?I know her husband and I was at their wedding.oh my God”
“Thelma we heard you have been mailing Gloria’s husband and having phone sex with him. Is this true? are you dating him?”

Lagos police arrest suspected serial murderer, robber

Ibrahim Balogun
Ibrahim Balogun

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ibrahim Balogun, a 25-year-old man accused of perpetrating a series of murders in Somolu, Bariga and Fadeyi in the state.

PUNCH Metro had reported on June 25, 2012, that Balogun also known as Small Jpron, was declared wanted following a gang-related violence between Shaggy Boys and Downtown Boys which left at least five people dead in Ilaje, Bariga.

Balogun, who also goes by the pseudonym, Asarailu, which means death in Arabic, is said to be the deputy gang leader of Downtown Boys and a member of a sect, Eiye Confraternity also known as EFCC Boys.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Balogun was arrested on Bawahala Street near Pedro Police Station on Saturday.

A reliable police source narrated the circumstances that led to Balogun’s arrest to our correspondent.

He said, “On Friday, around 11:30am, Yusuf Adebowale, a resident of Somolu, took a commercial motorcycle to FirstBank branch in Fadeyi to withdraw N100, 000. As he was withdrawing the money from ATM, the okadarider, later identified as Dare, informed Balogun and his gang.

“As Adebowale left the bank, just a few metres away, Balogun and three other gang members attacked  him and stole the money, phone and a wristwatch.

“Adebowale reported the matter at Onipanu Police Station and also told youths in the area about his ordeal. Less than an hour later, Dare, the okada rider, was apprehended by residents and taken to the  police station where he confessed.

“Later that night, he led us to Balogun’s hideout but Balogun was not around. One of the policemen, identified as Abu, however released Dare without authorisation.”

Our correspondent learnt that the following day, around 11:30am, Balogun and four others allegedly went to rob residents of Bawahala Street and a woman alerted the police.

The police source said, “In broad daylight, Balogun and four gang members, heavily armed, went to rob. We received a distress call and policemen headed by Inspector Smart, rushed down to the scene.

“The four others escaped but Balogun was arrested and taken to Pedro Police Station where he identified himself as Ibrahim Oriyomi Folarin.”

Our correspondent learnt that the policemen could not identify Balogun even though the police had declared him wanted. However, scores of residents stormed the police station and quickly identified him.

It was learnt that there was pandemonium at the station as residents who had fallen victims to Balogun and his gang asked the police to hand him over.

Youths in the area were said to have brought a tyre and petrol which they threatened to set the suspect ablaze.

But the Special Anti-Robbery Squad took Balogun away and this restored normalcy to the station.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

She said Balogun had been on police wanted list for a long time.

“I just spoke to the officer in charge of SARS and he confirmed the incident to me. He said the suspect (Balogun) is accused of murders, attempted murders and robberies,” she said.

Monalisa’s Ex, Dejo Richards, Reacts To Rumoured Marriage Woes; Says, ‘My Marriage Is Intact’

Ex-husband of Nollywood actress, Monalisa Chinda, Segun Dejo Richards, has reacted to the news that his nearly two-year-old marriage to his wife, Lamide is presently in trouble and on the brick of collapse. Dejo, whose marriage to Monalisa packed up in 2009 due to an alleged domestic violence, remarried in January 2011 to a US-based Lamide.
There were reports last week that Lamide was on the brick of divorcing Dejo over another alleged domestic violence in the marriage.
CLICK AND READ IT HERE
Reacting to the story through a press statement made available to our source by his publicist, HOB Media, Dejo claimed that there is no iota of truth in the story. Dejo said through the statement that he and his wife got to know about their reported imminent divorce on the internet.
The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to stories circulating about our client, Dejo Richards. This story was also unprofessionally reported in Encomium newspaper. Elements of the story includes Dejo Richard’s marriage crumbling and also that Dejo Richard married his wife for financial gains. All these are totally false allegations that will be taken up legally.
“Firstly, none of the publication can provide the proof that the marriage has been dissolved. All they reported are hearsays. None of the publications including Encomium failed to speak with both Dejo Richards and the wife before they went to press. The two got to learn about their own break up on the internet.
“On the issue of Dejo Richard marrying for financial gains. It is sad that people do not know who Dejo Richards is and they just write what they feel will get their papers sold. Dejo Richards comes from a very influential and financially stable family. We will not go ahead and drop names, but his family is well respected.
“Dejo on his own is an entrepreneur who studied in the United Kingdom. You will remember that he is one of the founders and co-owners of Question marks label. He owns his own production outfit at the moment and he is producing for TV stations across Africa, London and Europe.   “It is unfair that his name or is marriage is being dragged in the mud. Magazines that published the false story without any proof will soon get letters from Dejo’s lawyers.

News Update: Court orders re-arrest of pharmacist

Cynthia and the suspects.Late Cynthia and the suspects.

A Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on Tuesday ordered the re-arrest of Orji Osita, one of the pharmacists accused in the murder of Cynthia Osokogu.

Osokogu was allegedly killed in a hotel room in FESTAC area of Lagos by her two Facebook friends on July 22, 2012.

Osita and his pharmacist colleague, Maduakor Chukwunonso alongside Okwumo Nwabufo, Olisaeloka Ezike, Nonso Ezike, Olisaeloka’s younger brother, and Chinonso Ezeaka and Gideon Okechukwu had been charged in connection with the murder.

Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, of an Ikeja High Court, had on November 20 released Osita and Chukwunonso, after they filed an application to enforce their fundamental human rights.

But at the hearing of the DPP’s advice on Tuesday before Magistrate Olalekan Aka-Bashorun, the officer in charge of the Legal Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Lagos State Police Command,  Chukwu Agwu, said the police were served with two different copies of the DPP’s advice.

Agwu said the police were initially furnished with a DPP advice dated November 1 with reference No. LJP/HOM/2012/143/24 before they got another one dated November 16 with reference No. LJP/HOM/2012/143/ 30.

According to Agwu, the DPP gave the second advice after they made a “representation that the first advice did not articulate all the facts,” adding that the second advice which he claimed to be “superior, correct and authentic” was given in the wisdom of the DPP.

He said, “Following the latest advice, we have another charge for the third defendant (Osita) and I don’t know why he (Osita) and the fourth defendant Chukwunonso are not in court today.”

Agwu also denied the knowledge that a high court had freed the two pharmacists.

Agwu said, “In view of this situation, I urge this honourable court to invoke Section 79 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State and order the arrest of Osita so that he can face the new charge against him.”

Chris Obiaka, lawyer of Osita and Chukwunonso, said the DPP who purportedly issued the second advice on November 16 was duly represented at the Ikeja High Court on November 20 and did not raise an objection to their “unconditional release.”

He said, “We served the police just as we served the DPP the hearing notice at the Ikeja High Court together with the various court processes.

“Now, it’s quite surprising that another advice has emanated from the same office (DPP) and I don’t know whether they obtained further evidence to guide them in this new advice. We urge the court to tread with caution in making any ruling or order.”

Aka-Bashorun, after hearing arguments from parties on the application made by Agwu, said, “Section 79 is hereby invoked and law enforcement agents should compel his attendance before this court at the next adjourned date.”

After the copy of the DPP’s second advice was duplicated and provided to the lawyers of the seven accused persons on the order of the court, Agwu said the advice exonerated Chukwunonso, Okechukwu and Chinonso the fourth, fifth and seventh defendants respectively.

Their lawyers, subsequently applied that they be discharged and released from custody pursuant to Section 72(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State 2011.

Ruling on this, Aka-Bashorun granted their prayers saying, “The fourth, fifth and seventh defendants are hereby released unconditionally from the Ikoyi Prison custody.”

In the first advice signed by M.B. Olaniyi, on behalf of the DPP, it was stated that no prima facie case of any criminal offence was established against Osita.

But the second advice signed by Olayide Eboda, of the Directorate of Public Prosecution said a “prima facie case of reckless and negligent acts was established against Osita contrary to Section 249 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.”

It added that facts revealed that the second defendant (Olisaeloka) had identified Osita as the “pharmacist who sold the drug, Rohypnol Flunitrazepan, to him without prescription.”

The second DPP advice also stated that there were “sufficient facts to establish a prima facie case of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, conspiracy to commit  felony to wit stealing and stealing against Nwabufo and  Olisaeloka contrary to sections 231, 221, 409 and 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.”

Also, the DPP in the second advice contended that there was a prima facie case that the sixth defendant (Nonso Ezike) was having in his possession a thing reasonably suspected to have been stolen contrary to Section 327 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

Aka-Bashorun adjourned till December 17 for the ruling on the bail application made by Nonso  and Olisaeleko’s lawyers, C.G. Achomadu and O. Dada respectively.
